In the 18th century the so-called "Lüftlmalerei",
or painting on external house walls, reached its climax.
Around 1748 Franz Seraph Zwinck was born in Oberammergau
and later created some of his major works in the town. The
numerous facades he decorated in the town and its surroundings
are a clear indication that he was an outstanding representative
of this art form.
